Experience

Lead Engineer — Hamlet

2025 – Present

Turning local-government meetings and agendas into searchable, analyzable data.

  • Scaled the Agenda Monitoring feature to ingest hundreds of agenda documents per day, sourced from thousands of websites.
  • Built data pipelines that convert agendas from PDF to markdown, extract their content, and use LLMs to categorize and tag relevant agenda items.
  • Shipped Video Search, which scrapes, transcribes, and indexes City Council and Planning Commission meetings with an embedding model to power semantic search over what was said.
  • Designed Meeting Analysis, joining a meeting's agenda and transcript to surface insights, extracting and categorizing action items and linking them back to agenda topics for a pre- and post-meeting throughline.
  • Launched a public API that lets customers access Hamlet's data directly, enabling their data-science teams to build their own analyses.
  • Rearchitected the application for faster deploys, higher engineering velocity, and smoother collaboration with coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Codex).

Senior Software Engineer — DoorDash

2018 – 2025

Consumer Platform

Powering DoorDash's consumer product experiences with shared infrastructure.

  • Launched the Consumer Mobile BFF (backend-for-frontend), moving the consumer backend from a monolith toward microservices.
  • Built the Consumer CMS powering in-app banners and promotions.
  • Shipped Programmatic Carousels, letting local operators curate which stores and products appear in mobile carousels by user and product criteria.

Experimentation Platform

Rebuilding DoorDash's A/B testing platform for its second generation.

  • Built the Experiment Configuration Portal and Configuration Management Service, giving internal users a visual way to create and manage experiments.
  • Created infrastructure to deploy experiment configurations across DoorDash's server fleet.
  • Served as subject-matter expert, partnering with engineers and data scientists to troubleshoot and debug live experiment configurations.
  • Gave internal talks and training on experiment design and best practices.

Pivotal

2011 – 2018

Senior Software Engineer

2015 – 2018

Powering Pivotal's delivery teams with internal tooling.

  • Led the effort to break a large monolithic Rails application into Java microservices, then reused that service layer to bootstrap two new applications.
  • Set up CI/CD infrastructure that let the team ship features into acceptance and production quickly.
  • Ramped the team up on Java, Spring, RxJava, React, and Redux.

Engineering Manager

2011 – 2015

Coaching client teams on agile delivery while managing eight developers.

  • Ran regular 1-1s and gathered peer feedback to support direct reports' career growth.
  • Partnered with office directors to staff direct reports onto projects aligned with their career goals.
  • Coached client developers in pair programming and test-driven development, and client product managers in agile project planning.
  • Facilitated weekly project-planning meetings and retrospectives.
  • Scoped prospective engagements, providing estimates that office directors turned into client proposals.
  • Led teams of six to eight developers building web and mobile apps across Android, Rails, Backbone, and AngularJS.

Software Engineer — Hewlett-Packard

2000 – 2011

Building two enterprise data-center products end to end, from UI to data layer.

HP Insight Power Manager

Discovering, configuring, and managing power topology for HP ProLiant and BladeSystem hardware.

  • Designed Flex UI for laying out data-center racks and rows, backed by a Java/BlazeDS API for server-side configuration storage.
  • Built a Java subsystem that automatically analyzed power topologies and flagged configuration errors, wired into HP Systems Insight Manager's event-handling system.
  • Produced pre-recorded demos that drove interest with internal and external customers and helped onboard new engineers.
  • Stood up the project's build and unit-test infrastructure in its early phases.

HP Global Workload Manager

Automating goal-based resource allocation for HP-UX systems.

  • Developed and maintained the database back-end powering goal-based, automated resource allocation.
  • Designed a data-storage API for configuration persistence and retrieval, then partnered with internal teams to extend it to other products in the suite.
  • Broadened database support to Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL across HP-UX, Linux, and Windows.
